Thanksgiving Service Project & Food Drive

 

Volunteers will assist with sorting, stocking, cleaning and organizing the food pantry.
The service project will coincide with the Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Classon Green Streets Area (between Classon Ave and St. Johns Pl)
Volunteers will help with weeding and general cleanup around that space that could use a great deal of work.

Children of Promise, NYC (Opportunity for ongoing service) (9:45AM-2:00PM)

 

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is a community based, non-profit organization, in Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed Stuy) Brooklyn, whose mission is to embrace the children of incarcerated parents and empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system.
Service Project: Saturday Resource Tutoring Center (Academic Tutoring: reading, tutoring, crafts. Ages 6-14)

Operation Gratitude (Youth Service Project) 10:00AM-12:00PM

 

WRITE A LETTER! EBC youth will participate in a letter writing drive in support of the men and women who serve our country! Their letters and drawings will be placed in care packages sent by Operation Gratitude. Over 200,000 packages a year are sent to our troops. Operation Gratitude seeks to lift spirits and meet the evolving needs of the U.S. Military and First Responder communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for Americans to express their appreciation to all who serve our nation.

Saturday, October 8th: Urban Farming with Project EATS – Marcus Garvey Farm (10:00AM-2:00PM)

 

Volunteers will assist with all farming aspects, from composting and weeding, to harvesting and processing crops to building benches and raised beds.

Brooklyn Queens Land Trusts (10:00AM-3:00PM)

 

Building a small shade structure with an integrated rainwater harvesting system. While anyone with basic carpentry, construction, or building experience is more than encouraged to participate, the garden has a skilled construction leader that will guide all the volunteers, so all are welcome to participate.

Saturday, October 29th: Rebuilding Together NYC (9:00AM-4:00PM)

 

Rebuilding Together NYC is a safe and healthy housing organization dedicated to the preservation of affordable housing for low-income Brooklyn residents and communities.
Service Project: Volunteers will help with building a Community Center. Those with skills in Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Flooring and Carpentry are especially needed. Breakfast, Lunch, Rebuilding Together NYC t-shirt, and all construction materials and tools will be provided.
